The HARVEY TOOL 72001 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for ultra-precision micromachining applications. With a cutting diameter of 0.001 inches and a length of cut of 0.003 inches, this tool is built for the tightest tolerances found in mold work, medical device manufacturing, and miniature component production. The 2-flute, right-hand cutting geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation at high RPM. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for non-ferrous metals, plastics, and other materials where coating adhesion would compromise dimensional accuracy at this scale. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers and high-speed spindles capable of maintaining the rotational speeds required for sub-thousandth-inch tooling. Typical applications include engraving, micro-slot milling, and fine-detail cavity work in prototype and production environments. The 1/8-inch shank diameter makes it compatible with standard collet systems commonly found in vertical machining centers and CNC routers equipped for micro tooling. Single-end construction means the tool is replaced rather than re-indexed when the cutting edge is spent.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and high-speed spindle setups accepting a 1/8-inch shank diameter collet. Suitable for right-hand spindle rotation.
Installation and tool changes must be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine control in a safe state. Seat the shank fully into the collet and torque the collet nut according to the collet manufacturer's specification. At 0.001-inch diameter, tool deflection and runout are critical factors — verify collet and spindle runout before engaging the workpiece. Handle micro-diameter tooling with care to avoid chipping the cutting edge prior to use.
