The HARVEY TOOL 70980-C3 is a solid carbide Woodruff keyseat cutter designed for milling semicircular keyseats in shafts and mating components. It features a 0.625-inch cut diameter, a 0.25-inch cut width, and a straight-tooth configuration with 8 teeth for clean, accurate cuts. The cutter carries an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating that improves heat resistance and extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. With a 5/8-inch shank diameter and a 3.5-inch overall length, it mounts directly in standard end mill holders or collet chucks. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this cutter on CNC mills and manual vertical mills when cutting keyways to Woodruff key standards.
This keyseat cutter is suited for keyseat operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as hardened materials where the AlTiN finish provides a thermal barrier. Typical applications include shaft keyseating on precision mechanical assemblies, drive components, and power transmission parts. The straight-tooth geometry produces a smooth bottom and sidewall finish in the keyseat pocket, making it appropriate for close-tolerance fits between keys and bores.
Designed as a direct-mount keyseat cutter for use in CNC machining centers and manual vertical mills with standard 5/8-inch collet or end mill holder tooling.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom professional. Secure the shank fully in the collet or end mill holder and verify runout before cutting. Confirm the machine spindle is fully stopped and the axis is locked before changing or inspecting the cutter. Follow shop-standard feeds and speeds for solid carbide tooling and the workpiece material being cut.
