The HARVEY TOOL 54240-C3 is a single profile thread mill designed to cut both internal and external threads across a range from 10-24 to 10-56 TPI in a single tool. Built from solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN coating, this tool delivers heat resistance and wear life suited to ferrous and abrasive materials. The cutting diameter measures 0.135 inches with a 1/4 inch shank diameter and an overall length of 2.5 inches. Four flutes provide a balance of chip evacuation and surface finish. It is installed in CNC machining centers by machinists and toolroom programmers running threaded-feature work on precision components.
This thread mill is suited for CNC milling applications where a single tool must handle multiple thread pitches in the 24 to 56 TPI range on size 10 fastener geometry. Typical applications include precision part production in aerospace, medical, and general machining environments where internal and external thread forms are required in the same setup. The reduced neck diameter of 0.070 inches enables reach into tight bore geometries without interference. It is appropriate for use in both ferrous alloys and non-ferrous materials when running at appropriate speeds and feeds for solid carbide tooling.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers accepting a 1/4 inch shank toolholder; suitable for cutting 10-24 to 10-56 thread forms in both internal and external configurations on compatible workpiece materials.
Thread mills are installed by machinists or toolroom personnel into appropriate collet or end mill holders rated for the 1/4 inch shank diameter. The machine spindle must be stopped and the tool path programmed as a helical interpolation move before engaging the workpiece. Verify runout at the toolholder before cutting to avoid pitch error or tool breakage on the reduced neck section. Follow the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds, feeds, and depth-of-cut parameters for solid carbide thread mills in the workpiece material being machined.
