The HARVEY TOOL 54206 is a solid carbide single profile thread mill designed to cut both internal and external threads in the #2-56 to #2-64 thread size range, covering 56 to 64 threads per inch (TPI). With a cutting diameter of 0.064 inches and a 1/8-inch (0.125 inches) shank, this tool is built for precision threading in small-diameter applications. The two-flute geometry and bright/uncoated finish make it well-suited for non-ferrous metals, plastics, and other materials that do not require a coated surface. Machinists and CNC programmers use single profile thread mills when thread form flexibility and tight tolerances are the priority.
This thread mill is used in CNC machining centers for generating fine-pitch threads in small bores and on small external fastener features. Its overall length of 1.5 inches and neck diameter of 0.038 inches allow it to reach into confined areas while maintaining rigidity at this scale. Typical applications include aerospace components, medical device parts, electronic enclosures, and precision instrument housings where #2-series threaded features are common. The single profile design allows one tool to produce multiple thread pitches within its rated TPI range by adjusting the CNC toolpath, reducing tool inventory requirements.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers with a 1/8-inch collet or end mill holder; compatible with any machine capable of helical interpolation and accepting a 0.125-inch shank diameter toolholder.
Thread milling requires a CNC control capable of helical interpolation; confirm G-code support before programming the toolpath. Secure the shank fully in a precision collet or toolholder to minimize runout at this small diameter. Follow the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds, feeds, and axial depth-per-pass guidelines for solid carbide thread mills at this scale. Inspect the cutting edges under magnification before use, as solid carbide tools at this diameter are sensitive to chipping from improper handling.
