The HARVEY TOOL 48978-C3 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in demanding machining applications. With a 5/64 inch (0.078 inch) cutting diameter and a 0.117 inch length of cut, this tool is built for tight-tolerance work in small-feature milling. The AlTiN coating provides heat and wear resistance, making it well-suited for dry or high-speed cutting of ferrous and hardened materials. Three flutes deliver a balance of chip evacuation and surface finish quality. This end mill is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments.
This end mill is intended for use in vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual knee mills where small-diameter, high-precision cutting is required. The extended reach design, with a 1.187 inch reach length and 2.5 inch overall length, allows access to deeper features and pockets without tool interference. A 1/8 inch shank diameter is compatible with standard collet systems. It is appropriate for applications in mold making, die work, aerospace components, and medical device manufacturing where fine feature detail is critical.
Designed for use with standard 1/8 inch collets and tool holders on CNC and manual milling machines. Suited for solid carbide end mill applications requiring extended reach in small-diameter configurations.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down or in a safe state before changing tooling. Secure the shank in a clean, properly sized collet or tool holder to the manufacturer-specified clamping torque range for the holder type in use. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on small-diameter carbide tooling.
