The HARVEY TOOL 41455-C3 is a solid carbide single profile thread mill designed to cut both internal and external threads across a broad range across a broad range of thread pitches from 18 to 48 TPI, covering thread sizes 5/16-18 through 5/16-48. With a 0.24-inch cutting diameter and a 1/4-inch shank diameter, this tool runs on standard toolholders found in most CNC machining centers. The AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and wear resistance for extended tool life in ferrous and hardened materials. Four flutes deliver clean thread geometry in a single helical pass, reducing cycle time compared to multi-pass tapping operations.
This thread mill is suited for CNC machining applications in job shops, production shops, and tool rooms where a single tool must cover multiple thread pitches in the 5/16 size range. It handles both blind and through-hole threading on internal features and is equally capable on external thread profiles. The 0.75-inch neck length provides clearance for threading into shallow counterbores or bosses without interference from the shank. Overall length is 2.5 inches, making it compatible with standard tooling setups on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers with standard 1/4-inch toolholders; suitable for threading 5/16-18 through 5/16-48 internal and external thread forms across a wide range of workpiece materials.
Thread mills require a CNC machining center capable of simultaneous 3-axis helical interpolation — confirm controller support before setup. Secure the 1/4-inch shank in a balanced, high-precision collet chuck or toolholder and verify runout before cutting. Follow the tool manufacturer feed and speed recommendations for the specific workpiece material; do not use thread mill programs designed for single-point boring operations. Inspect the cutting edges and coating condition before each use, particularly when working in hardened or abrasive materials.
