The HARVEY TOOL 41012-C3 is a solid carbide spotting drill designed to create precise, accurate starting points for follow-on drilling operations. Built to a 140-degree point angle with a Harvey Type II point geometry, it produces a clean, well-defined spot that guides twist drills and other cutting tools without walking or deflection. The AlTiN coating increases surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in demanding materials. At 2 inches overall length with a 5/8-inch flute length and 3/16-inch cutting diameter, this drill is suited for tight-clearance setups and precision work where accurate hole location is critical. It is installed by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators.
This spotting drill is used in general-purpose machining applications on CNC mills, drill presses, and manual milling machines. The single-ended, right-hand cutting design and straight cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks, collets, and ER-style toolholders. It is appropriate for spotting operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, stainless, and hardened materials where the AlTiN coating provides thermal protection at elevated cutting speeds. The two-flute spiral configuration supports chip clearance during the spotting pass.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in standard drill chucks, collets, and ER-style toolholding systems on CNC machining centers, knee mills, and drill presses where a 3/16-inch straight shank is accepted.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup personnel. Power down and lock out the spindle before securing the tool in the holder. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the collet or chuck is properly torqued before initiating a cut. Do not use this tool for drilling full-depth holes; it is designed exclusively for spotting and should be retracted after producing the starting chamfer.
