The HARVEY TOOL 39893-C3 is a solid carbide spotting drill designed to create accurate, centered starter holes before finish drilling operations. Built to Harvey Type I point geometry with a 140-degree point angle, this tool produces precise spot locations that guide subsequent drills without walking. The AlTiN coating increases surface hardness and thermal resistance, extending tool life in ferrous and high-temperature alloy applications. At 0.0938 inches in cutting diameter and 1.5 inches overall length, this is a compact, single-ended tool suited for tight-tolerance work in production and job-shop environments. Installation and use require a CNC machining center or drill press with a compatible straight-shank collet or chuck.
This spotting drill is used in precision machining applications where hole location accuracy is critical. The 140-degree point angle is well matched to pre-spotting for standard twist drills and carbide drills. The spiral flute design with two flutes provides chip clearance during the spotting operation. General-purpose tool performance classification makes it appropriate for a range of materials including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. It is a single-ended tool with a straight cylindrical shank, intended for use in machine tool setups by machinists and CNC operators.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses equipped with a straight-shank collet or chuck accepting a 0.125 inches shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or chuck is safely disengaged before inserting or removing the tool. Verify collet or chuck runout is within acceptable tolerance before commencing spotting operations, as excessive runout will compromise hole location accuracy. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate selection appropriate to the workpiece material.
