The HARVEY TOOL 38208-C3 is a solid carbide spotting drill designed to create accurate center spots and chamfers for subsequent drilling operations. Built with a 120-degree point angle and a Harvey Type II point geometry, it produces a precise conical seat that guides twist drills and keeps holes on location. The 0.125-inch cutting diameter pairs with a matching 0.125-inch straight cylindrical shank, keeping the tool compact and rigid. An AlTiN coating boosts surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in ferrous and hardened workpiece materials. Two spiral flutes provide efficient chip evacuation during the spotting pass. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators are the typical end users.
This spotting drill is suited for general-purpose machining applications in job shops, production floors, and maintenance environments. The 1.5-inch overall length and 0.375-inch flute length make it a good fit for shallow spotting passes on flat or lightly contoured surfaces. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation. Single-ended construction means the tool is replaced rather than reversed when worn. The AlTiN coating makes it particularly effective in dry or minimum-quantity lubrication (MQL) cutting strategies where heat buildup at the tip is a concern.
Designed as an OEM-style spotting drill for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills equipped with standard collets or drill chucks accepting a 0.125-inch straight shank.
Install in a collet or drill chuck rated for the shank diameter and ensure runout is within acceptable limits before starting the spindle. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting the tool. Use the minimum recommended spindle speed and feed rate for the workpiece material and verify the spot depth does not exceed the flute length of 0.375 inches. Inspect the tip for chipping or wear before each use, as carbide tools can fail suddenly if run on a damaged cutting edge.
