The HARVEY TOOL 37512 is a solid carbide spotting drill designed to accurately locate and start holes before finish drilling operations. With a 90-degree point angle and a 3/16-inch cutting diameter, this tool creates precise starter indentations that keep drill bits on center and reduce walkout on flat, angled, or curved surfaces. The bright, uncoated finish suits general-purpose applications across a range of base materials. At 2 inches overall length with a 5/8-inch flute length, this is a compact, rigid tool built for use in CNC machining centers, manual mills, and drill presses. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and fabricators are the primary installers.
The 37512 is suited for production and job-shop environments where consistent hole location is critical before step drilling, reaming, or tapping. Its 3/16-inch straight cylindrical shank fits standard collets and drill chucks without modification. The two-flute spiral configuration with a Harvey Type II point promotes clean entry geometry and chip clearance during spotting passes. It is appropriate for use in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and composite materials in both light-production and prototype machining scenarios where general-purpose solid carbide tooling is specified.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in standard collets and drill chucks accepting a 3/16-inch straight cylindrical shank in CNC and manual machining setups.
Installation is performed by machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before loading or changing tooling. Secure the shank fully within the collet or chuck to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine-tool operating procedures when setting spindle speeds and feed rates for spotting operations.
