The HARVEY TOOL 35640 is a miniature solid carbide ball end mill engineered for precision milling in tight geometries and deep-reach applications. It features a 0.04 inch mill diameter, a 0.06 inch length of cut (stub flute), and a 2.5 inch overall length with extended reach capability. The 3-flute, right-hand helical design with a 30-degree helix angle balances chip evacuation and surface finish across a range of materials. Solid carbide construction delivers the rigidity and edge retention needed for consistent results at this scale. The bright uncoated finish suits applications where coating buildup or heat sensitivity is a concern.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals in both roughing and finishing passes. The long-reach, stub-flute geometry makes it well matched for contouring, profiling, and accessing recessed features where a standard-length flute would deflect or chatter. Typical applications include mold and die work, precision machining of medical or aerospace components, and small-part fabrication requiring tight dimensional tolerances. The 0.125 inch straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collet chucks and toolholders designed for 1/8 inch shanks.
Designed for use on CNC machining centers and high-speed spindles capable of the RPM ranges required for miniature-diameter carbide tooling. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Fits 1/8 inch collet chucks and toolholders with straight-cylindrical shank bores.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the spindle and toolholder are clean and free of runout before seating the shank; excess runout at miniature diameters accelerates tool wear and can cause breakage. Verify collet clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification before starting a cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool; apply external flood or mist coolant as appropriate for the workpiece material.
