The HARVEY TOOL 34231 is a miniature solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling in tight spaces and small-feature work. With a 0.031-inch cutting diameter and a 3-flute helical geometry at a 30-degree helix angle, this tool delivers smooth chip evacuation and consistent surface finish across a wide range of materials. The long-reach, stub-flute configuration extends usable reach to 0.25 inches while keeping the flute length short at 0.046 inches, improving rigidity and reducing deflection during fine-detail cutting passes. It is single-end, right-hand cut, and ships uncoated. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this tool in CNC machining centers handling small-component and finish work.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals in both roughing and finishing applications. The stub flute length supports stability when milling at depth with minimal sidewall clearance. The 1/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collet chucks found on most CNC mills and high-speed spindles. Typical use cases include die cavities, medical components, aerospace features, and any small-part application requiring a sub-1mm ball profile with extended reach access.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement and standard miniature ball end mill for CNC machining applications requiring a 1/8-inch shank and sub-millimeter cutting diameter. Compatible with standard straight-bore collet chucks accepting a 0.125-inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Power down the spindle and confirm the tool changer or spindle is fully stopped before installing or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully in a clean, dry collet or tool holder and torque the collet nut to the holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before starting a cut, as runout has a significant effect on tool life and surface quality at miniature diameters.
