The HARVEY TOOL 32278-C4 is a miniature solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-precision finishing operations in hard materials. The tool features a 5/64 inch (0.0780 inch) cutting diameter with a 19/64 inch length of cut and a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. An amorphous diamond PVD coating provides wear resistance suited to hard workpiece materials. The variable helix geometry at 20 degrees helps reduce chatter and improve surface finish. At 2.5 inches overall length, this single-end mill is built for tight-tolerance work in confined areas where standard-length tools cannot reach. Machinists and tooling professionals select this series for finishing passes where dimensional accuracy and tool life are critical.
This end mill is engineered for use in hard materials, with secondary compatibility in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. The long-flute configuration and extended reach of 13/32 inch (0.406 inch) make it well suited for profiling deep features, pocketing, and contouring in die and mold work, aerospace components, and precision mechanical parts. It is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute design with spiral flutes and no chipbreaker, optimized for finishing rather than roughing. The fractional-inch dimensioning aligns with standard CNC tooling setups common in North American machine shops.
Designed for use in the HARVEY TOOL Miniature End Mills - Ball - Long Flute series. Primary workpiece material rating is hard material (code H); secondary ratings cover steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K). Straight-cylindrical 1/8 inch shank fits standard 1/8 inch ER or collet-style toolholders common on CNC machining centers and high-speed spindles.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine placed in an e-stop or lockout state per applicable shop safety procedures. Use a calibrated torque wrench and manufacturer-specified collet or toolholder rated for 1/8 inch shank diameters. At small diameters, runout control is critical — verify toolholder and collet concentricity before operation. Do not exceed rated cutting parameters for the workpiece material class.
