The HARVEY TOOL 24540 is a miniature solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling in tight-tolerance applications. It carries a 0.0400-inch cutting diameter with a 0.0200-inch nose radius, a 0.0600-inch length of cut, and a stub-length configuration that maximizes rigidity at small diameters. The two-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle supports both roughing and finishing operations. The bright, uncoated carbide construction is well-suited for shops that prefer to apply their own coatings or work with materials where uncoated carbide performs best. This tool is a single-end design with a straight cylindrical 0.1250-inch shank and a 1.5000-inch overall length.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals in applications that demand small-feature capability. Typical use cases include die and mold work, medical component machining, aerospace detail parts, and any operation requiring a miniature ball profile in a production or prototype environment. The stub-length body limits deflection at the cutting end, making it a practical choice when working in shallow pockets or slots where a standard reach tool would introduce chatter or dimensional error.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and high-speed spindles accepting a 0.1250-inch straight shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Part of the HARVEY TOOL Miniature End Mills - Ball - Stub and Standard series.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician using a precision collet or end mill holder rated for the 0.1250-inch shank diameter. Ensure the spindle and toolholder are clean and free of runout before seating the shank. At this diameter, even minor runout will accelerate tool wear and degrade surface finish. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's torque and clamping guidelines for miniature tooling; do not exceed the holder's rated clamping force.
