The HARVEY TOOL 23828-C3 is a solid carbide dovetail cutter designed for precision undercut milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. Built with a 48-degree included angle and a 0.284-inch cut diameter, it produces accurate dovetail profiles in a single pass. The 0.158-inch cutting width and 0.031-inch corner radius control chip load and surface finish in tight-tolerance slots and features. A Titanium Aluminum Nitride (TiAlN) coating increases surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in ferrous and hardened materials. Machinists and CNC operators install this cutter on vertical machining centers and manual mills where dovetail slides, fixtures, and T-slot profiles require consistent geometry.
This dovetail cutter fits standard milling setups using a 5/16-inch shank diameter, making it compatible with common collet systems found on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. It is suited for dovetail slot production in steel, aluminum, cast iron, and similar materials where a TiAlN-coated carbide tool is appropriate. With only 2 cutting teeth, it is well-matched to applications requiring controlled chip evacuation in narrow, undercut profiles. Typical uses include fixture plates, machine ways, dovetail slides, and precision mechanical assemblies requiring repeatable undercut geometry.
Designed for use in standard 5/16-inch collet or end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Compatible with collet systems that accept a 5/16-inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Power down the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the 5/16-inch shank fully into a clean, undamaged collet or holder and torque the retention nut per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or coating damage before use, and verify runout with a dial indicator when tolerances are critical.
