The HARRIS SILVER is a Safety-Silv 45 high silver brazing alloy used for joining copper, brass, steel, and other metals in refrigeration, HVAC, and plumbing systems. Supplied in a 1/16 inch diameter rod format in a 1 troy oz cup, this alloy delivers strong, leak-resistant joints at the fillet. The 45 percent silver content provides a lower flow point than standard brazing alloys, making it well suited for close-clearance joints and dissimilar metal combinations. HVAC technicians and plumbers use this alloy where a clean, high-strength braze is required on refrigerant-grade copper tubing and fittings.
Safety-Silv 45 is commonly used in residential and commercial HVAC service work, refrigeration system assembly and repair, and plumbing applications where copper-to-brass or copper-to-copper joints must meet pressure and leak standards. It is particularly appropriate for use on ACR tubing, service valves, and other components where joint integrity is critical. A suitable flux is required for proper wetting and flow.
Designed as a high-silver brazing filler for use in HVAC, refrigeration, and plumbing applications requiring a 45 percent silver alloy. Appropriate flux must be used separately; consult applicable code and filler metal specifications for your jurisdiction.
Brazing with high-silver alloys is typically performed by licensed HVAC technicians or journeyman plumbers in accordance with local mechanical and plumbing codes. Purge refrigerant lines and de-energize the system before applying heat. Use an appropriate silver-brazing flux and an oxy-acetylene or air-acetylene torch; apply heat to the base metal rather than directly to the rod. Allow the joint to cool naturally before pressurizing or leak-checking.
