The HARRIS SCM-10YDH is a silicon carbide open mesh abrasive cloth designed for cleaning and preparing pipe and tubing surfaces before soldering. Grain-bonded on both sides, the mesh delivers consistent abrasion across the full surface, producing tight, leak-proof solder joints. At 180 grit, it removes oxidation and scale without leaving heavy gritty residue on the work surface. The cloth is fully waterproof, making it suitable for wet or damp field conditions. Plumbers and HVAC technicians use this product as a direct replacement for standard sand cloth during copper pipe prep work.
The SCM-10YDH is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing and HVAC installations where copper tubing must be cleaned before sweat soldering or brazing. Each tray contains six rolls, each 10 yards in length, providing extended supply for high-volume service work or shop stocking. The open mesh construction resists clogging, extending usable life beyond that of conventional sand cloth. The black silicon carbide abrasive is appropriate for copper, brass, and similar soft metal surfaces commonly encountered in pipe fitting and refrigeration line work.
Designed for use on copper, brass, and similar soft metal pipe and tubing surfaces as an OEM-style replacement for standard abrasive sand cloth in plumbing and HVAC pipe preparation applications.
A licensed plumber or HVAC technician should shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before beginning any pipe prep or soldering work. Wrap the mesh around the pipe or fitting and work it in a rotational motion to clean the full circumference before applying flux. Follow applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC when performing soldered joint work. Avoid using this abrasive on stainless steel or hardened metals, as the 180 grit silicon carbide is optimized for softer materials.
