The HARRIS sc-10ydh is a resin-bonded aluminum oxide sand cloth designed for cleaning, deburring, and prepping copper tubing, pipe fittings, and plumbing fixtures. The flexible cloth backing conforms to curved surfaces, making it well suited for round pipe and fitting work. At 120 grit, it removes oxidation and surface contamination without excessive material removal, leaving a clean surface ready for soldering or joining. The cloth measures 1.5 inches wide and 10 yards long per roll, and this pack includes 6 rolls. The resin coating provides water resistance, allowing use in both wet and dry conditions.
This sand cloth is a standard tool in plumbing rough-in and service work. Plumbers and pipefitters use it to prep copper pipe ends and the inside of fittings before soldering, ensuring proper bonding of flux and solder. The 120 grit finish is appropriate for general surface prep on residential and light commercial plumbing systems. The flexible backing allows the cloth to wrap around pipe diameters without cracking or tearing, and the water-resistant construction holds up during wet pipe service conditions where standing moisture is present.
Designed for use on copper tubing, pipe fittings, and plumbing fixtures as an OEM-style abrasive for standard plumbing prep applications.
Sand cloth of this type is installed by plumbers and pipefitters as part of standard sweat-solder preparation per IPC guidelines. Shut off the water supply and drain the line before prepping pipe ends. Wrap the cloth around the pipe end or insert into the fitting cup and work in a circular motion until the surface is bright and free of oxidation. Avoid touching the prepped surface after cleaning, as skin oils can interfere with flux adhesion and solder flow.
