The HARRIS 78171 is a Stay-Silv 15 phosphorus-copper brazing alloy rod, formulated with 15% silver content and supplied in a 0.050 x 1/8 inch wire profile. This filler metal is the established industry standard for joining copper and copper-alloy components in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Its melting range is engineered to accommodate wider joint clearances while maintaining good service ductility in the finished braze joint. Licensed HVAC technicians and refrigeration mechanics are the primary installers. The alloy complies with EU REACH and RoHS directives, making it suitable for projects with restricted substance requirements.
This brazing rod is used in residential and commercial HVAC and refrigeration applications where copper-to-copper or copper-to-brass joints must withstand refrigerant system pressures and thermal cycling. Common install scenarios include suction and liquid line connections, evaporator and condenser coil headers, and service fittings on refrigeration circuits. The 15% silver content provides a good balance of flow characteristics and joint strength for these close-tolerance tube-to-fitting assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style brazing filler metal for copper-to-copper and copper-to-brass joints in residential and commercial air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed HVAC or refrigeration technician in accordance with applicable mechanical and refrigeration codes. Recover and evacuate the refrigerant circuit fully before opening any brazed joint. Use a suitable torch with a neutral to slightly reducing flame; avoid oxidizing flames that degrade joint quality. Allow the completed joint to cool naturally before pressurizing or leak-testing the system.
