The HALEX/SCOTT FETZER 96843 is a zinc plated steel reducing washer sold in a 2-pack, designed to reduce the size of a knockout opening in sheet metal boxes, enclosures, and cabinets. Each washer steps down a 1.25-inch knockout to accept a 1-inch fitting, allowing a smaller conduit connector to seat securely in a larger opening. The zinc plating provides corrosion resistance in typical indoor electrical enclosure environments. Both UL and CSA listed, these washers meet the approval requirements for use in standard commercial and residential electrical installations. Each knockout requires a pair of locknuts to secure the washer in place.
These reducing washers are used with rigid metal conduit (RMC) and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) systems. A common installation scenario involves retrofitting an existing enclosure or panel where the available knockout is larger than the conduit connector being installed. Electricians reach for reducing washers when the available knockout size does not match the conduit trade size entering the box. The 2-pack format suits single-knockout jobs or keeps a spare on hand for the next service call.
Designed for use with rigid metal conduit and intermediate metal conduit (IMC) fittings entering sheet metal boxes, enclosures, or cabinets with 1.25-inch knockouts.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). De-energize the enclosure or cabinet completely before opening and working near any knockouts. Seat the reducing washer into the knockout opening and secure it with a locknut on each side of the enclosure wall. Do not over-tighten locknuts to the point of deforming the washer or sheet metal.
