The GWS 314872 is a single-end square end mill designed for precision milling of aluminum and non-ferrous materials. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and wear resistance required for production milling environments. The tool carries a ZrN (zirconium nitride) coating, which reduces friction and extends tool life when cutting non-ferrous alloys. Key dimensions include a 0.5-inch mill diameter, a 2-inch length of cut (LOC), and a 4-inch overall length (OAL) with a matching 0.5-inch shank diameter. The 37-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation. HVAC, plumbing, and electrical fabricators running in-shop aluminum machining operations will find this tool at home in a standard CNC machining center or manual mill.
The 314872 is intended for use on aluminum, brass, copper, plastics, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials where a right-hand spiral, right-hand cut, 3-flute geometry is the preferred configuration. Its centercutting capability allows plunge entry into the workpiece. The Series 2030 designation identifies the specific GWS geometry family. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and pocketing operations where a clean square shoulder and controlled chip load are priorities. This end mill is a single-piece unit sold individually.
Designed for machining aluminum and non-ferrous materials; the 0.5-inch shank diameter fits standard ER, Weldon, and collet-style toolholders with a 1/2-inch bore. Series 2030 geometry per GWS specification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Verify runout and tool projection before beginning a cut. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling supplier recommended speeds and feeds for the specific workpiece material and depth of cut being used.
