The GWS 314865 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 1.5 inch length of cut, and a 4 inch overall length with a 0.5 inch shank diameter. The three-flute geometry paired with a 37-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and balanced cutting forces. A zirconium nitride (ZrN) finish adds surface hardness and lubricity, extending tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. This is a center-cutting tool, allowing plunge entry directly into the workpiece. Installed and run by CNC machinists and manual mill operators in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill suits slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations on a variety of materials including aluminum, steel, and plastics. The upcut right-hand flute configuration pulls chips up and away from the cut zone, reducing recutting and heat buildup. The 0.5 inch shank fits standard ER and side-lock toolholders common to vertical machining centers and manual Bridgeport-style mills. It is a single-end tool from GWS Series 2030, suited for general-purpose and finishing passes in both light and moderate material removal scenarios.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide end mill replacement fitting any toolholder with a 0.5 inch collet or bore, including ER32, ER40, and side-lock holders standard to CNC vertical machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before loading or removing tooling. Seat the shank fully to the recommended engagement depth in the toolholder and torque the collet nut or set screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling.
