The GWS 314766 is a single-end square end mill designed for precision milling of aluminum and non-ferrous materials. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide, it carries a zirconium nitride (ZrN) coating that reduces built-up edge and extends tool life in high-speed non-ferrous applications. The 3/8 inch diameter cutter features 3 flutes with a 37-degree right-hand helix and an upcut spiral flute geometry. It is centercutting, allowing both plunge and peripheral cuts. With a 2 inch length of cut and 4 inch overall length, this tool suits milling fixtures, brackets, and structural aluminum components. Licensed machinists and CNC tool-room technicians are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where aluminum, brass, copper, and other non-ferrous alloys are the primary workpiece materials. The ZrN finish is well matched to high-RPM finishing and semi-finishing passes where surface finish and chip evacuation are critical. The 3-flute geometry provides a balance between chip clearance and feed rate capability typical of non-ferrous toolpath strategies. The 3/8 inch shank diameter fits standard ER collet chucks and side-lock holders common in production and tool-room environments.
The GWS 314766 belongs to the Series 2030 product line and is designed for machining aluminum and non-ferrous materials (primary workpiece material code N). Specific machine compatibility is determined by spindle taper and collet or chuck holder accepting a 3/8 inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before loading or changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder and torque the retention nut according to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, as excessive runout accelerates carbide wear and degrades surface finish.
