The GWS 314651 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal, composites, and engineered materials. Built to Series 2030 standards, it features a 5/16 inch cutting diameter, 1/2 inch length of cut, and a 37-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The submicron carbide grade provides wear resistance and edge retention under demanding conditions. Three flutes and a right-hand cutting and flute direction make this a standard choice for general-purpose end milling where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are priorities. The bright, uncoated finish suits applications where coating interaction with the workpiece material is a concern.
This end mill is suited for machining centers and CNC mills in job shop, tool room, and production environments. The 5/16 inch shank diameter matches the cutting diameter, simplifying toolholder selection for standard collet chucks and end mill holders. The 2-1/2 inch overall length provides adequate reach for typical cavity and slot milling work without excessive overhang. Center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry, expanding its use in ramping and helical interpolation applications. It is a single-end tool intended for use until the cutting edges are worn, then replaced.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use end mill for standard 5/16 inch collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and end mill holders used on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the full recommended insertion depth in the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut.
