The GWS 312990 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metal, composites, and other hard materials. It features a 3/16-inch cutting diameter, a 3/4-inch length of cut, and a 45-degree helix angle, making it well suited for aggressive chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. The ZrN (zirconium nitride) coating increases surface hardness and reduces friction, extending tool life in abrasive materials. With a submicron carbide grade and right-hand cutting and flute direction, this end mill delivers consistent performance in demanding CNC and manual milling applications. It is a single-end, center-cutting tool installed by machinists and toolroom professionals.
This end mill is used in CNC machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling. The 2-flute configuration promotes efficient chip removal, making it a practical choice for softer metals and applications requiring good chip clearance. The 3/16-inch shank diameter matches the cutting diameter for direct collet or end mill holder mounting. Typical users include production machinists, tool-and-die shops, and maintenance machining operations working with steel, aluminum, and similar materials.
Designed as a Series 2010 single-end square end mill compatible with standard 3/16-inch collets, ER collet chucks, and end mill holders used on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder torqued to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut to avoid premature tool wear or breakage.
