The GWS 312636 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for finishing operations in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron. It features a 1/2 inch mill diameter, a 0.03 inch corner radius, and 7 flutes arranged in a right-hand helical pattern at a 38-degree high helix angle. The FX3 coating - an aluminum-chromium (AlCr) based PVD coating - improves heat resistance and extends tool life in demanding ferrous and exotic-alloy applications. With a close pitch flute design and submicron carbide grade, this end mill delivers surface finishes appropriate for precision machining environments. It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling professionals in production and job-shop settings.
The 312636 is a single-end, center-cutting tool suited for milling slots, pockets, contours, and profiling passes where a corner break or blend radius is required. The 1-1/4 inch length of cut (31.75 mm) and 3 inch overall length make it appropriate for moderate-depth finishing cuts in vertical machining centers, horizontal mills, and CNC routers. Primary target materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes P, M, S), with secondary capability in cast iron (ISO code K). The Series 2215 designation places it within the GWS standard finishing end mill line.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders accepting a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance. Suitable for CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers used in finishing steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron workpieces.
Install in a compatible end mill holder and torque to the holder manufacturer's specification - do not exceed the holder's rated clamping range. Confirm spindle and tool runout before engaging the cut, as runout directly impacts corner radius accuracy and surface finish. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before tool changes. Follow shop-floor PPM and applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements during setup.
