The GWS 312589 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations in demanding materials including steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron. Built to Series 2215 specs, it features a 3/8 inch diameter, 7 flutes, and a 0.03 inch corner radius that reduces edge chipping and improves surface finish on workpiece corners. The AlCr-based FX3 coating provides thermal and oxidation resistance suited for hard and abrasive materials. This single-end, centercutting tool is intended for use with standard end mill holders and is installed by machinists and CNC programmers operating milling machines in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is intended for finishing passes in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron applications. The 7-flute, close-pitch configuration allows for higher feed rates per revolution while maintaining a quality surface finish. The 1 inch length of cut (LOC) and 2.5 inch overall length (OAL) make it well-suited for standard-depth finishing in vertical and horizontal milling setups. Right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting direction are standard for conventional milling machine spindles. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or air blast is the appropriate cooling method for this tool.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders accepting a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary workpiece material is cast iron.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Secure the shank fully in a compatible end mill holder to the depth recommended by the holder manufacturer, and verify runout before beginning a cut. Confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the tool. Do not exceed the rated LOC of 1 inch, and use appropriate external coolant or air blast since this tool has no coolant-through provision.
