The GWS 311708 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining environments. It features a 5/8-inch cutting diameter, a 1-1/4-inch length of cut, and 5 flutes with a 38-degree helix angle for efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. The tool is coated with AlCrO-MAX, a high-temperature-resistant aluminum-chromium-oxide coating that extends tool life in abrasive and heat-intensive cuts. Manufactured to a submicron carbide grade, this end mill delivers edge retention and dimensional consistency across extended runs. It is a single-end, center-cutting design, making it suitable for plunge, slot, and peripheral milling operations.
The GWS 311708 is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling operations where tight tolerances and material versatility are required. Its AlCrO-MAX coating and submicron substrate make it well suited for a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and composite materials. The chipbreaker geometry aids in chip control during deep slotting or high-feed passes. This tool fits applications in aerospace, die and mold, general metalworking, and precision manufacturing where a reliable, coated solid carbide end mill is the specified tool.
The GWS 311708 is part of the GWS Series 2205 and is rated for workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, steel, and high-temperature alloys. Designed as a standard-length, single-end solid carbide end mill compatible with 5/8-inch collets, shrink-fit holders, and end mill holders with h6-tolerance bores.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before installing or removing the tool. Use a calibrated torque wrench when tightening collet nuts or set screws to avoid shank damage and maintain runout within specification. Verify spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut against the manufacturer cutting data for the target workpiece material before beginning a new operation.
