The GWS 311615 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding shop environments. With a 1/2-inch diameter, 5-flute geometry, and a 0.02-inch corner radius, it delivers controlled edge engagement on ferrous and exotic materials. The variable helix and variable index design reduce harmonic vibration during cuts, improving surface finish and tool life. At 3 inches overall length with a 1-inch length of cut, it suits short to medium-depth milling passes. This tool is installed and applied by machinists and CNC tooling professionals working with end mill holders on vertical or horizontal machining centers.
The 311615 is built for roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron. The submicron carbide substrate provides the toughness and wear resistance required for these materials. The corner radius geometry extends tool life by distributing cutting forces away from a sharp 90-degree edge, making it well suited for shoulder milling, peripheral milling, and slotting applications where edge chipping is a concern. It functions as a single-end, centercutting tool, allowing plunge entry where the toolpath requires it.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary workpiece material is cast iron. Series 2205.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the end mill holder and torque the retention hardware according to the holder manufacturer's specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on carbide tooling.
