The GWS 311540 is a 5-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. With a 3/8-inch cutting diameter and a 1-inch length of cut, this tool delivers aggressive material removal while maintaining edge stability. The AlCrO-MAX finish provides thermal and oxidation resistance, extending tool life in high-speed and dry-cutting applications. An upcut flute geometry combined with a 38-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation makes this a standard configuration for CNC machining centers and manual mills. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this tool.
The GWS 311540 is suited for use in ferrous and non-ferrous milling operations where extended reach is not required. Its centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry into workpieces without a pre-drilled start hole. The Series 2205 designation places it within a line engineered for general-purpose to advanced milling applications. Typical use cases include slot milling, profiling, and peripheral cuts in steel, stainless, aluminum, and similar materials. The 3/8-inch square shank seats directly into standard ER collets and end mill holders.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or new-install end mill for standard 3/8-inch ER collets, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling systems used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer torque and runout specifications for the collet or holder system in use. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing the end mill. Verify shank engagement depth meets the holder manufacturer minimum grip length requirement. Inspect the collet or holder bore for chips or contamination before clamping.
