The GWS 311454 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. With a 1/4 inch (0.2500 inch) diameter and a 0.0300 inch corner radius, this single-end tool operates in both roughing and finishing modes. It features 5 flutes arranged in a variable helix and variable index configuration, which reduces harmonic vibration and improves surface finish at higher feed rates. The FX3 coating classification listed as uncoated in spec data indicates a submicron carbide grade substrate optimized for heat resistance. It is installed by machinists and tooling professionals using standard end mill holders.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. The long length type with a 1 inch length of cut (25.40 mm) and 3 inch overall length (76.20 mm) makes it appropriate for deeper cavity work and shoulder milling where reach is required. Its centercutting capability allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece. The straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance seats precisely in standard end mill holders, maintaining runout control in tight-tolerance work.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders accepting a 1/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary workpiece material is cast iron.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. The end mill must be seated fully into the holder and secured to the manufacturer torque specification for the holder type before spindle engagement. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate settings are appropriate for the workpiece material and tool diameter before initiating a cut. Inspect the cutting edges and corner radius for chips or wear before each use, as a damaged radius can cause premature tool failure or dimensional inaccuracy.
