The GWS 310906 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built to a 0.5000 inch diameter with a 0.0200 inch corner radius, this single-end, center-cutting tool runs a 4-flute spiral configuration with variable helix and variable index geometry. Those features reduce harmonic chatter and improve chip evacuation during both roughing and finishing passes. The short flute length of 0.6250 inches and extended reach of 3.3750 inches make it well suited for deep-pocket and shoulder milling where rigidity and reach must be balanced. Overall length is 6 inches. The tool is manufactured from submicron-grade solid carbide.
The GWS 310906 is intended for machining steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with cast iron as a secondary application. It fits standard end mill toolholders and is appropriate for CNC machining centers and manual mills where a straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance is specified. The combination of variable helix and variable index geometry suits it to finishing and semi-finishing cuts on difficult-to-machine alloys where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical. Right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting orientation are standard.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. Cast iron is a rated secondary workpiece material.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the recommended gauge depth and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on carbide tooling.
