The GWS 310541 is a single-end, square-profile solid carbide end mill built for high-performance milling in demanding shop environments. It carries a 1-inch cutting diameter, a 2-inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length with a 1-inch square shank. The submicron carbide substrate is paired with an AlTiSiN coating, which supports elevated cutting temperatures and extends tool life in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. A 38-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces chatter. Four right-hand flutes with an upcut geometry deliver smooth finishes on profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling operations. This tool is installed and changed out by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop settings.
The 310541 is suited for milling operations on ferrous alloys, hardened steels, stainless, and similar difficult-to-machine materials where heat resistance and edge retention are priorities. The AlTiSiN coating allows dry or near-dry cutting strategies, reducing coolant dependency in applicable setups. The standard-length profile and center-cutting capability make it versatile for plunge entry, side milling, and contouring passes. It is appropriate for horizontal and vertical CNC machining centers as well as manual knee mills where rigidity allows for full-diameter engagement.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 1-inch straight square shank end mill with standard ER or side-lock toolholding.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable machine-specific lockout/tagout procedures. Use a properly sized collet, end mill holder, or side-lock holder rated for the 1-inch shank diameter and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Do not exceed the holder projection length necessary for the operation, as excessive overhang reduces rigidity and accelerates edge wear. Consult the machine tool manufacturer and cutting tool data sheets for recommended feeds, speeds, and depth-of-cut parameters before engaging the workpiece.
