The GWS 310491 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. It features a 3/4 inch cutting diameter, a 0.03 inch corner radius, and 4 flutes with a variable helix and variable index geometry. The long-reach configuration provides a 2-3/4 inch length of cut and a 5 inch overall length, making it well suited for deep-pocket milling and finishing passes where rigidity and surface finish matter. The submicron carbide grade delivers the hardness and edge retention needed when working in difficult materials. This tool is installed and operated by machinists, CNC programmers, and tool-and-die tradespeople on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
The 310491 is engineered for primary use in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. It also handles cast iron as a secondary workpiece material. The single-end, centercutting design allows for plunge entry and versatile toolpath strategies including slotting, profiling, and ramping. The straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance fits standard end mill toolholders and collet chucks. This is a long-series tool suited to setups where reach beyond standard length is required.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary workpiece material is cast iron.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists on CNC or manual milling equipment. Before mounting, clean the toolholder bore and shank to remove chips, coolant residue, and burrs that could affect runout. Secure the tool in the holder according to the toolholder manufacturer torque guidelines and confirm runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool; external coolant or air blast should be used to manage chip evacuation and heat in the cut zone.
