The GWS 310097 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 0.25 inch diameter with a 0.01 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge and extends tool life in interrupted cuts. The 4-flute, single-end geometry with a short flute length of 0.255 inches and 2.5 inch overall length suits a straight cylindrical shank setup in standard end mill toolholders. Variable index and variable helix geometry help suppress chatter during both roughing and finishing passes. Machining professionals and tool-and-die shops rely on this configuration for high-accuracy work in steel, stainless steel, and superalloy components.
This end mill targets applications in steel, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and cast iron - material groups that demand a submicron carbide substrate and a rigid, short-reach tool. It is suited for vertical machining centers and CNC mills running right-hand cutting with right-hand flute direction. The centercutting design allows plunge entry where required, adding versatility in slotting and pocketing operations. The straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance is compatible with standard collet chucks and hydraulic toolholders used in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium; secondary workpiece material is cast iron. Shank diameter of 0.25 inches fits 1/4 inch collet systems and toolholders rated for straight-cylindrical shanks.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians following shop-standard tool-change procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Confirm runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as h6 shank tolerance is designed for tight collet or hydraulic holder fits. Follow your machine tool manufacturer guidelines for speeds, feeds, and depth-of-cut recommendations appropriate to the workpiece material.
