The GWS 125649 is a single-end square end mill ground from submicron solid carbide for use in precision milling operations. It features a 5/8 inch cutting diameter, a 2-1/2 inch length of cut, and a 3-flute geometry with a 37-degree right-hand helix. The bright, uncoated finish leaves the carbide substrate exposed, making this tool well suited for applications where coating interference is a concern or where regrinding is planned. At 5 inches overall length and a matching 5/8 inch shank diameter, it fits standard ER and end mill holders commonly found in machining centers and knee mills. This tool is installed and run by machinists and toolroom operators.
The 125649 is designed for milling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials. The GWS Series 1020 designation and the listed primary workpiece material codes indicate suitability for cast iron, nonferrous metals, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature alloys. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional and climb milling on vertical and horizontal machining centers. The 3-flute upcut configuration supports chip evacuation in slotting and peripheral milling passes. Extended reach is not a feature of this tool; it is rated as standard length.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct equivalent for standard 5/8 inch shank square end mill applications in vertical and horizontal machining centers, knee mills, and similar machine tool setups accepting ER collet chucks or end mill holders with a 5/8 inch bore.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom operator. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing the tool from its holder. Ensure the shank is fully engaged in the collet or end mill holder to the recommended grip length before torquing the retention nut. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut, as excessive runout accelerates carbide wear and can cause premature tool failure.
