The GWS 125648 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking and machining applications. With a 0.5 inch cutting diameter and a 2.25 inch length of cut, this three-flute tool delivers efficient chip evacuation and a smooth cutting action in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The right-hand cut, right-hand upcut flute geometry moves chips away from the workpiece, reducing recutting and heat buildup. At 4 inches overall length with a 0.5 inch shank, it fits standard ER or straight-bore toolholders common in vertical and horizontal CNC mills. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill belongs to GWS Series 1020 and is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations. The centercutting design allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled hole. Primary workpiece material codes indicate suitability for hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature alloys. The uncoated solid carbide construction makes it appropriate for applications where coolant is used or where coating compatibility with the workpiece material must be carefully matched.
Designed as a standard-length replacement or direct-use solid carbide square end mill for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.5 inch straight shank. Compatible with material types coded H, K, M, P, and S per the supplier specification, covering hardened steel, cast iron, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank in a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder to the torque specification called out in the toolholder manufacturer documentation. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use, as solid carbide is brittle and should not be used if edge damage is present.
