The GWS 122811 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations in demanding machining applications. Built to Series 1040 specifications, it features a 5/16 inch (0.3125 inch) mill diameter with a 0.03 inch corner radius and seven flutes arranged in a variable helix, variable index configuration. The FX1 nACo coating increases surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in abrasive and hard materials. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 0.8122 inch (20.62 mm) length of cut, this single-end tool is suited for finish milling passes where surface quality and edge integrity are critical. Installed in a standard end mill holder with an h6-tolerance straight cylindrical shank.
This end mill is intended for finishing cuts on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The close pitch, seven-flute geometry allows higher feed rates while maintaining fine surface finish, making it a practical choice for CNC machining centers handling tight-tolerance workpieces. The right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting orientation are standard for conventional vertical and horizontal milling setups. It is not coolant-through configured, so flood or mist coolant directed externally at the cutting zone is the typical approach.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders accepting a 5/16 inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials; secondary workpiece material is stainless steel.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Secure the shank fully within the end mill holder to the recommended engagement depth before torquing the retention mechanism. Verify spindle runout is within acceptable tolerance before cutting, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear on a seven-flute geometry. Power down the spindle and confirm zero RPM before any tool change or measurement.
