The GWS 122632 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations in demanding metalworking applications. Built to Series 1040 standards, it features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, a 0.015 inch corner radius, and seven flutes arranged in a variable helix, variable index configuration. The variable helix and index geometry reduce harmonic vibration during cut, improving surface finish and extending tool life. At 2 inches overall length with a 7/16 inch length of cut, this is a short-length tool optimized for rigidity. It is center cutting and right-hand cutting with a right-hand flute direction, making it suitable for plunge entry and conventional or climb milling passes.
This end mill is suited for finishing passes on steel, cast iron, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The close pitch, seven-flute design supports higher feed rates during finish milling on CNC machining centers. The straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance fits standard end mill holders and collet systems. It is not configured for coolant-through delivery and does not include a chipbreaker, placing it squarely in finishing rather than roughing service. Machinists working on tight-tolerance features in difficult materials will find the corner radius geometry useful for reducing stress concentrations at the tool tip.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Secondary workpiece material is stainless steel.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician on a CNC or manual milling machine. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before installing or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism to the holder manufacturer's specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a finishing pass, as excessive runout on a seven-flute tool will disproportionately affect surface finish quality.
