The GWS 121298 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling across a range of ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. It features a 1/8 inch cutting diameter, a 0.015 inch corner radius, and five flutes configured in a variable helix, variable index geometry that reduces chatter and improves surface finish. The 1/2 inch length of cut and 1-1/2 inch overall length suit it to tight-tolerance finishing and roughing passes in confined workspaces. Applied with an nACo (FX1) coating, it is engineered to handle elevated cutting temperatures while maintaining edge integrity. Machinists and toolroom operators working on CNC machining centers specify this tool for demanding material removal applications.
The GWS 121298 is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its center-cutting capability allows direct plunging into a workpiece without a pre-drilled entry point, supporting interpolation and ramping strategies common in die and mold work as well as aerospace component machining. The tool fits standard end mill toolholders with a straight cylindrical shank and an h6 shank diameter tolerance for consistent runout in precision collet and hydraulic holders.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders accepting a 1/8 inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for Series 1035 GWS tooling setups. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per material codes P, K, S, M, and H.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in a safe state per shop lockout procedures. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder specification before any cutting operation. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as the h6 shank tolerance is calibrated for low-runout holders. Consult the machine tool builder and applicable OSHA and ANSI B11 standards for guarding and feed rate guidelines when machining superalloys or hardened steels.
