The GWS 120993 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built on the Series 1035 platform, this single-end tool features a 1/2 inch diameter, a 0.015 inch corner radius, and five flutes with variable helix and variable index geometry. The variable helix and index combination reduces harmonic chatter during cutting, improving surface finish and tool life. An FX1 coating provides enhanced wear resistance and thermal protection. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 5/8 inch length of cut, this tool fits standard end mill toolholders and suits both roughing and finishing operations in a single setup.
This end mill is suited for machining steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, hard materials, and stainless steel. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, giving machinists flexibility in toolpath programming. The short flute length and straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance make it compatible with precision collet chucks and hydraulic toolholders. Typical applications include profiling, slotting, and contouring in CNC machining centers running ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys. The right-hand cutting, right-hand spiral configuration is standard for conventional vertical and horizontal machining setups.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Secondary workpiece material is stainless steel.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a safe, locked-out state. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout at the cutting edge before engaging the workpiece. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer recommended speeds and feeds for the specific workpiece material and depth of cut.
