The GWS 120983 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding milling applications. Built on the Series 1035 platform, it features a 3/8 inch diameter cutting edge with a 5/8 inch length of cut and five flutes ground to a variable 38-degree helix angle. The nACRo coating provides enhanced heat resistance and lubricity, allowing the tool to maintain edge integrity at elevated cutting speeds. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. This end mill is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous alloys where chip evacuation and surface finish are critical. The five-flute geometry increases the number of cutting edges in contact, supporting higher feed rates compared to standard four-flute designs. The upcut flute type pulls chips away from the workpiece, reducing recutting. With a 3/8 inch shank diameter and 2 inch overall length, it fits standard collets and end mill holders in vertical and horizontal machining centers as well as CNC milling machines. Extended reach is not a feature of this tool, making it best suited for standard-depth pockets and slots within the 5/8 inch length-of-cut range.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for standard 3/8 inch collets and end mill holders used in CNC vertical machining centers, horizontal mills, and manual knee mills requiring a 3/8 inch shank square end mill.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Proper collet torque and tool stick-out should be set per the machine builder specifications to minimize runout. Verify that the selected speeds and feeds are appropriate for the workpiece material and coating type before initiating a cut.
