The GWS 120980 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding machining environments. Built on the Series 1035 platform, it features a 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch) mill diameter with five flutes and a 38-degree variable helix geometry that reduces chatter and improves chip evacuation during high-speed cuts. The nACRo coating provides enhanced heat resistance and wear protection, extending tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials alike. With a 0.312 inch length of cut and 2 inch overall length, this tool fits tight-tolerance applications requiring precise depth control. Machinists and toolroom operators working with CNC mills and manual knee mills will find this end mill suitable for slotting, profiling, and finishing operations.
The GWS 120980 suits residential shop, production, and toolroom environments where close-tolerance milling is required. Its right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction follow standard CNC spindle conventions, making it a straightforward drop-in for most machining center setups. The upcut flute type promotes chip clearance away from the workpiece. The 3/16 inch shank diameter matches the mill diameter, allowing direct collet clamping without step-down adapters. This tool is appropriate for machinists working in steel, stainless, aluminum, and similar machinable alloys where a submicron carbide substrate and hard coating are specified.
Designed as a standard solid carbide square end mill compatible with CNC machining centers, vertical mills, and manual knee mills equipped with collet toolholding systems sized for 3/16 inch shank diameters.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in a clean, undamaged collet and tighten to the collet nut torque range specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the tool for chips or edge damage before each use and replace if the cutting edge shows wear that exceeds shop standards.
