The GWS 120956 is a 5-flute square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. Built from submicron solid carbide and coated with nACRo, it delivers extended tool life when cutting ferrous and non-ferrous materials at elevated speeds and feeds. The 1/4 inch diameter with a 3/4 inch length of cut suits slotting, profiling, and finishing passes in confined workpiece features. The variable 38-degree helix reduces chatter and improves chip evacuation, making it a reliable choice for production machining and precision toolroom work. Machinists, CNC operators, and tool-and-die professionals typically specify this tool for applications that demand edge retention and surface finish consistency.
The 120956 is suited for use on CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and multi-axis equipment in both job shop and production environments. Its single-end, right-hand cutting and right-hand flute configuration is the standard setup for conventional and climb milling on vertical spindle machines. The 1/4 inch shank diameter fits standard ER collets, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders without adapters, making it straightforward to integrate into existing tool assemblies. The Series 1035 designation places it within GWS tooling lines aimed at general-purpose to high-efficiency milling across a range of workpiece materials.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling addition for any machine spindle accepting a 1/4 inch shank end mill via ER collet, end mill holder, or shrink-fit toolholder.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in an e-stop or lockout-tagout state per applicable shop safety procedures. Ensure the collet or toolholder bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank to the full gauge depth. Torque retention nuts to toolholder manufacturer specifications using a calibrated torque wrench. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and degrades surface finish.
