The GWS 120948 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance roughing and finishing operations in demanding materials. It features a 5/16 inch (7.94 mm) mill diameter, five flutes, and a 0.01 inch corner radius that reduces chipping at the cutting edge and extends tool life in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. The nACo (FX1) coating provides thermal resistance and hardness at elevated cutting temperatures. The variable helix and variable index geometry reduce harmonic vibration during cut, improving surface finish and dimensional accuracy. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers in job shops, tool rooms, and production machining environments are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, cast iron, stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials in both roughing and finishing passes. The single-end, centercutting design allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral and slot milling. The 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance fits standard end mill toolholders used on vertical machining centers and CNC milling machines. The 0.8125 inch (20.62 mm) length of cut and 2.5 inch overall length make it appropriate for moderate-depth pockets and profiling passes where a compact reach is acceptable.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Secondary workpiece material is stainless steel. Part of GWS Series 1035.
Install in a clean, properly sized end mill toolholder and torque to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before commencing a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on a fine-corner-radius tool. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Follow the cutting data recommendations for the specific workpiece material grade and coating class when programming speeds and feeds.
