The GWS 103161 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling operations, particularly in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. Part of the Alumigator Series 1026, this single-end tool features a 5/16 inch diameter cutting edge with a 3-flute configuration and a 37-degree helix angle. The ZrN (zirconium nitride) coating reduces built-up edge and improves chip flow in aluminum alloys. With a 4-inch overall length and extended reach capability, it handles deeper pocketing and slotting passes that shorter tools cannot reach. Machinists and toolroom operators working with CNC machining centers or manual mills will find this cutter well-suited to finishing and semi-finishing operations in light alloys.
The 103161 is intended for right-hand cutting with right-hand flute direction and an upcut flute type. The extended reach design, with a 2-7/8 inch reach length, makes it effective in deep cavity milling, thin-wall contouring, and profiling applications where clearance between the tool holder and workpiece is limited. The submicron carbide grade provides edge retention in high-RPM aluminum cutting environments where tool life and surface finish matter.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting 5/16 inch shank tooling. Part of the GWS Alumigator Series 1026, optimized for aluminum and non-ferrous alloy milling applications.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician using a standard collet chuck or end mill holder rated for the 5/16 inch shank diameter. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or locked-out state before changing tools. Verify collet condition and holding force before running at elevated RPM to prevent tool pullout. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and cutting tool manufacturer guidelines for starting feeds, speeds, and depth of cut when breaking in a new tool.
