The GUHRING 9057200040000 is a spiral point tap designed for right-hand threading of M4 x 0.70 metric coarse threads in both through-hole and modified bottoming applications. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this tap offers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. It features three flutes and a D6 thread limit with a 6G class of fit. Overall length is 2.4803 inches with a thread length of 0.2953 inches and a shank diameter of 0.1772 inches. It is part of the Guhring Series 5720 and is suited for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-tapping setups where precise metric threading is required.
This tap is intended for blind hole threading across a broad range of materials. It is suited for production and maintenance machining environments where M4 metric coarse threads are needed. Compatible material applications include aluminum, aluminum alloys, free cutting steel, structural steel, heat treatable steel, case hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, sulfured steel, and tool steel. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard taper or plug chamfer, making it useful in tight-tolerance assemblies where full thread depth is critical.
Designed for M4 x 0.70 metric coarse blind hole threading applications across aluminum, aluminum alloys, case hardened steel, cast iron, free cutting steel, heat treatable steel, stainless steel, structural steel, sulfured steel, and tool steel as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid-tapping cycle. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the hole axis before engagement to avoid tap breakage. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material before and during the tapping operation. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use, particularly when working in harder materials such as stainless or tool steel.
