The GUHRING 9057170160000 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading blind holes in a wide range of metallic workpieces. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it cuts M16x2 metric threads to a 6H class of fit with consistent accuracy. The 40-degree helix angle and fast flute style work together to evacuate chips upward out of the hole, making this tap well-suited for difficult-to-machine materials where chip packing is a concern. With a 110 millimeter overall length and a 20 millimeter thread length, it fits standard tapping chucks and CNC toolholders used in production and job-shop environments. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die trades install this tap in machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping setups.
This tap is built for blind hole threading applications across a broad material spectrum. Suitable workpiece materials include alloy steel, alloy tool steel, aluminum alloy, case-hardened steel, cast iron, ductile iron, free-cutting steel, heat-treated steel, malleable cast iron, stainless steel, structural steel, and tool steel. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug chamfer, making it a practical choice when full thread depth near the hole bottom is required. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-application tap for blind hole threading in M16x2 metric thread applications across alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum alloy, and related materials listed under GUHRING Series 5717.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following applicable shop safety procedures. Secure the workpiece rigidly and ensure the tap is held in a properly sized tapping chuck or floating holder to prevent misalignment and tap breakage. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, as dry tapping in steel significantly shortens tool life. Do not force the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly — back off to clear chips before continuing.
