The GUHRING 9055240042000 is a cobalt stub-length (screw machine length) drill bit designed for precision hole-making in production and maintenance environments. Built to DIN 1897 standards, it has a 0.1654-inch (4.20 mm) diameter, a 118-degree four-facet split point, and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust force at entry. The M35 cobalt steel construction resists heat buildup during high-speed drilling, making it well-suited for harder materials and interrupted cuts. Two spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently throughout the cut. The bright, uncoated finish keeps tolerances tight with a diameter tolerance of +0.000 to -0.018 mm.
This stub-length drill bit is intended for use in screw machine operations, CNC drilling, and general-purpose production drilling where a shorter flute length provides added rigidity and reduced deflection. Its primary workpiece material rating is aluminum, though the M35 cobalt grade handles a broad range of non-ferrous and ferrous materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks and collets without adapters. The overall length is 55.00 mm (approximately 2.17 inches) with a flute length of 22.00 mm (approximately 0.87 inches) and a maximum drilling depth of 0.618 inches (15.70 mm).
Designed as a DIN 1897 stub-length replacement drill bit for use in standard drill chucks, ER collet systems, and screw machine tooling that accept a 4.20 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Falls within the 3.50 mm to 5.00 mm diameter range of the Series 5524 product line.
Machinists and toolroom technicians should ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into the chuck or collet and verify concentricity before beginning a drilling cycle. Use appropriate cutting fluid or mist coolant when drilling ferrous materials to extend tool life, noting this bit does not have coolant-through capability. Follow shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for maximum RPM at this diameter.
