The GUHRING 9055200046200 is a cobalt stub-length (screw machine length) drill bit designed for precision drilling in metalworking and fabrication applications. Built to DIN 1897 standards, this bit features a four-facet split point at 118 degrees that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to a conventional point. The web-thinned, tapered-web construction improves chip evacuation and cutting efficiency. At 0.182 inches in diameter with a 2.284-inch overall length, it is a compact, rigid tool intended for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and screw machines where a shorter flute-to-length ratio increases stiffness and reduces deflection.
This bit is sized to wire gauge No. 14 (0.182 inches decimal) and is suited for drilling aluminum as its primary workpiece material, though cobalt construction also handles harder alloys and work-hardening materials. The stub-length format is a standard choice for screw machine work, turret lathe operations, and any setup where tool overhang must be minimized to maintain hole accuracy. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die shops, and production drilling operations are the typical end users. The single-piece cobalt construction eliminates the delamination risk associated with coated HSS alternatives under high-heat cycles.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement or standard production drill bit conforming to DIN 1897 for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and screw machines accepting a straight-cylindrical shank of approximately 0.182 inches diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Secure the shank fully in a drill chuck or collet and verify runout before beginning a production run, as even minor runout at this diameter will affect hole tolerance. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and locked before changing tooling. Do not exceed the recommended maximum drilling depth of 0.672 inches per pass without retracting to clear chips, particularly when drilling aluminum at higher feed rates.
